Endoscopy non-surgical procedure: Not painful: I am very much scared of endoscopy. It hurts me thinking that a flexible telescope being pushed down my throat. Is it painful? Will I put to sleep? I know, these questions are rolling in your mind. Dear friends, these negative thoughts run through your head, became cages. But it is not as bad as you though. I suggest you to better read some encouraging experiences. Here is the procedure explained by a patient. Read it carefully and motivate yourself.

Endoscopy non-surgical procedure: Before starting of procedure (at least 6 hr before), doctor will recommend you to stop drinking and eating. It is advised to make your stomach empty. Next day, Doctor will spray the numbing stuff into your mouth. It is not uncomfortable. Then, he will advise you to close eyes. You will feel something is going gently into your neck. Dun worry it is nothing but an endoscope. Doctor will gently move endoscope into your esophagus, stomach and duodenum. After doing his work, he will pull out endoscope through mouth.  You could breathe and swallow normally.

Is it painful? No it is not painful. Endoscopy is a very safe and painless procedure. This procedure does not interfere with your breathing. But you might feel some discomfort or soreness at some point. Nurses are prepared if you feel any kind of discomfort. They will support you.  Doctor may give a sedative medication in forearm – helps a patient to relax during procedure. He will spray an anesthetic agent in your mouth to numb the throat and to stop gagging (coughing)

Is it safe? Yes! It is very safe procedure. Rare complication occurs such as bleeding. Talk to your doctor regarding this issue, before starting of procedure.
